Yes, I knit and crochet a lot, while Hubby games a lot.
Recently he picked up Shantae Half Genie Hero when it was free with Gold on Xbox Live.
What a fun and colourful wee game. Sidescroller with the hero being a half genie, half human, who whips her hair to damage enemies, and bellydances magic to become other creatures to help her navigate the world.
Needless to say, I saw several things that made me think… awe that’s cute, can I make it?
The easiest shaped is the Squid Baron (yes he has 8 legs, so I suppose he’s actually an octopus). I made him with his angry face cos he just looked so funny. I’ll get a pdf version on my Ravelry and Lovecrafts soonish (edit 24/6, it’s on them now) so I’ll make another with the cute kawaii happy look as well. This is what he looks like in game …
SO… here’s what I did

Fasten off leaving a long end to sew to body
Stuff the base of the tentacles, fold opening in half and whip stitch closed. I recommend pinning the 8 parts to the base before sewing in place, this way you can move them around if you need to even them out. I fitted mine so the edges could just touch, securing at the base, and also a couple of stitches at the top on the leg next to the body so the tentacles were held in place and not floppy.
For the face I cut 2 slightly off ovals … see pic, but like the furrowed brow shape you usually see in cartoon. Made a small knot in a length of black yarn and sewed one onto each eye shape as shown. I then glued the eyes to the face, if it was going to a child I would sew them on with matching thread. The brows and outline were embroidered on black yarn, angry mouth, and then a small white rectangle for a tooth
Finally 1 large and 2 smaller circles in purple for his head spots.
Think a bat might be next… maybe Crab-Shantae… or her mermaid form.
Watch this space 😀
